Milwaukee--June 7, 1999--Marcus Theatres Corporation, a division of The Marcus Corporation (NYSE:MCS), today announced that Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace generated the highest one week box office sales for a single motion picture in the company's history. Between May 19 and 25, the first seven days of its release, Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace brought in more than $1.9 million at Marcus Theatres box offices, more than double the previous highest sales week held by Titanic.Total box office revenues for the first 19 days of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace continue to be very strong with more than $3.6 million in box office receipts. "The response to Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace has been phenomenal. It was a sensational conclusion to our fiscal year which on May 27 and a great way to kick off fiscal 2000," said Bruce J. Olson, president of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, based Marcus Theatres Corporation. "Contributing to the success of Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace is Marcus Theatres' extensive program to retrofit the vast majority of our screens to stadium seating and digital sound. Another gigantic success has been our huge 75 foot-wide UltraScreenO at Waukesha's Westown Cinemas. It is the ultimate Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace experience," said Olson. "Teleticketing sales were also very impressive. More than 20,000 tickets for Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace and other films were sold through our new 291-FILM teleticketing system for 12 Milwaukee area theatres during the first 19 days of Star Wars," Olson stated. Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace is currently playing at 32 Marcus Theatres locations in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota and Ohio. Beatting titanic. Ep 1 made 102.7 million dollars the first week it was out! Titanic made a totall of 7 million, shattering the old records. We must psh Ep1 over the top. See Episode 1 again. I have sceen it five times and I am planing to see it another 20 times in theaters. Some of you may say only 25 times? I hope all of you will see it at leat 3 times in theaters. I have seen it my self three of the four times I saw the movie, and so have many of you. If you haven't seen Ets species, I'll tell you where they are. When everyone is yelling "Vote now, Vote Now" It flips to a sceen where some ugly, over weight hairless creatures are yelling, at the bottum left corner of that screen is three of ET's Species. The Actor who played Wicket in Jedi and was the star Dawrf of Willow is also in the Movie. He seems to have placed heavy bets on the race as he is sitting in the luxury box with Watto.
